A stairlift needs to suit both the person and the staircase. Arrange an assessment and survey, and compare installation, servicing and breakdown support alongside the equipment price.
Check the transfer, not just the staircase
Think through getting onto the seat, turning at the landing and getting off safely. If transferring is difficult, ask a qualified assessor about other access options. Bring the usual walking aid to a demonstration and ask about controls that can be used comfortably.
Ask about service where you live
Obtain a written survey showing rail position, parking space, folded clearance and any changes needed around doors. For an outdoor installation, ask for the manufacturer’s temperature and weather limits and the maintenance required in your climate.
Request the installer’s actual service area and response arrangements. A national sales number is not evidence that a technician can reach your community quickly.
