Choose a medical alert system around who responds and how help reaches the person. Confirm coverage, charging, accessible controls and the complete subscription cost. Ask the payer directly about any benefit instead of assuming coverage.
Draw the response sequence before comparing devices
Ask the provider to explain what happens after a button press: who answers, how they communicate, who is contacted next and when emergency services are called. A system that notifies family members and a monitored response service are different arrangements.
Write down the backup plan when the first contact cannot answer. Discuss access to the home without sharing keys or access codes in a general website inquiry. For an immediate emergency, call 911; WOHNALIO does not monitor alerts or dispatch help.
Test the places and routines that matter
Ask whether the product uses a landline, cellular service or another connection. Check the actual home, bathroom, yard and regular destinations within the provider’s trial and testing process. Ask how network loss is reported and what backup power is available.
Discuss charging with the person who will wear the device. Ask about button force, audio volume, wearing options and the manufacturer’s water-use rating. Request the documented limitations of any automatic fall-detection feature; do not treat it as guaranteed detection.
Compare the full contract in US dollars
Obtain the device, activation, monthly monitoring and optional feature charges separately. Ask about shipping, replacement equipment, minimum commitments and renewal. Compare the same period of service across providers.
Read the trial, refund and cancellation process, including how and when equipment must be returned. Ask whether a change of address, hospitalization or death affects the agreement and what evidence is required. Keep a dated copy of the terms.
Verify benefit claims before sharing identifiers
If a salesperson says a device is covered, ask your health plan or state support program to verify the exact benefit and provider. Use a contact number from your own plan documents. Do not enter a Medicare number or Social Security number into a general comparison form.
The Eldercare Locator can help identify local aging services to discuss available support. A referral to local information is not an endorsement of a particular commercial alarm.
General information from an independent publisher. WOHNALIO does not determine benefit eligibility or provide individual medical, legal or financial advice.
We explain costs, service scope and limitations before discussing commercial options.
