A stairlift should follow an assessment of the person, staircase and transfer ability. Council funding may be possible through local adaptation routes, but approval is not automatic and work should not begin before the relevant decision.
Confirm that a seated lift is suitable
The user must be able to transfer, sit securely and operate the controls. Where this is not realistic, a through-floor, platform or other access solution may need professional assessment.
Compare like-for-like quotations
Require a written total including survey, rail, seat, electrical work, installation, warranty and call-outs. For reconditioned equipment, ask which components are new and how parts support is handled.
