Start with interests, not an age label
A city break, a quiet rented apartment, a group itinerary and a walking holiday serve different interests. Write down the experience you want, how much planning you enjoy and how much time you want without a schedule. Later-life travel does not imply a fixed age or a need for care.
Compare independent and organised options
For a package, identify the organiser and the included services. For separate bookings, check each contract and what happens if a delayed arrival causes another booking to be missed. Ask who helps at the destination and what that help actually covers.

Work backwards from the first night
Add check-in, transfers, waiting time, luggage and a realistic meal break to the journey. Compare arrival in daylight with the cheapest advertised departure. Plan what you would do if the final connection is missed.
Keep your travel documents to hand
Keep booking references, provider contacts and your own emergency plan accessible offline. Give a trusted person the necessary itinerary, not passwords or unnecessary health documents. Use the relevant official travel advice again shortly before departure.
